Well, well, well. This couldn't have happened to a nicer company.
Regardless of your stance on AI, y'all have to admit that this is funny. And who knows? Maybe all of a sudden, the ethics of AI will matter, and we'll see the topic discussed more by slop YouTubers, TikTokers and other influencers.
In the meantime, a company called ArtCraft has created free, open-source clones of seven Adobe applications using Claude. They're written in Rust, run on Windows, Linux and macOS, and are released under MIT or Apache-2.0 licenses.
The suite goes as follows:
- PhotoCraft → Photoshop
- VectorCraft → Illustrator
- FilmCraft → Premiere Pro
- LightCraft → Lightroom
- EffectCraft → After Effects
- DesignCraft → InDesign
- PrintCraft → Acrobat Pro
The developer claims these were built without using Adobe's proprietary source code. They're still early-stage projects, though, so don't expect to uninstall Creative Cloud and have a fully functional replacement for everything just yet. In fact, some say the performance isn't that great. Not that performance was that great on Adobe products, anyway.
Still, the fact that one developer used Claude Opus 5.5 to help build seven applications targeting Adobe's software is pretty wild.
