whats your biggest hot take on romance fiction?

my hot take is that "real" enemies to lovers will never be good, YES REAL-REAL ENEMIES TO LOVERS CAN BE WRITTEN VERY WELL but people seem to only enjoy the smut ones that include ZERO character development and call them 'real enemies to lovers' just because the characters like violence or whatever.

its not automatically a good enemies to lovers just because "oh but theyre ACTUALLY enemies at the beginning!!" If they don't ALSO actually become lovers, (or at least romantic/implied) then its NOT enemies to lovers, its just (for lack of better words,) ; enemies with benefits.

i HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE when a god falls inlove with a schoolgirl and he's like 1BILLON YEARS OLD! and the girl is like 13-15                                        

every single romance book nowdays is the same copy-paste "she an (insert "feminine" activity/profession here) and he's (insert "masculine" activity/profession here), their love is forbidden" and it's getting boring other than filling bookshops with garbage

also "dark romance" is straight up romanticized(?) abuse, there's no way to sugarcoat it

the copy and paste angsty female lead that usually shows up in romantasy booktok books

one of the parents is usually dead and she hates the male lead at first before slowly falling in love with him

i guess i can't complain too much though bc the acotar series is my guilty pleasure...
