"It always seems bad at first, but then I find a way. I always have." - Samurai Jack, Season 5
i think i was in junior high when that was airing. in the context of the episode, Jack's stuck in some cave, realizing how hopeless his situation is, and begins to contemplate suicide.
i think originally, this quote always came to my mind when i was struggling with schoolwork, but since high school, i've...been through worse, to put things lightly. but...no matter how dark or hopeless things might seem, things always seem to kind of work out. this quote always reminds me of that.
"Agony is your triumph." - KM 3-1 from the Travis Strikes Again soundtrack
this one's just a lyric from a song in a game that always stuck out to me. i always repeat it to myself whenever i'm doing something i find particularly unpleasant.
"You take what you can get, and you die with it." - Now, Now - Lucie, Too
another lyric from a song i like. this lyric...i guess put an attitude i have towards life into words. i can't quite explain it, but i find it comforting.
"I'm looking for meaning in life; ...I walk because I was born" - Siinamota - Strobe Light
i think i've struggled with feeling like being alive was either a mistake or pointless since i was a teenager--not to sound edgy, that's just...how i feel sometimes. it's hard to put into words. i find myself holding onto this lyric a lot because of that--the only justification needed for being alive is because you were born.
"Have you ever felt yourself slipping away? I am, I mean, I was, slipping away; But no matter what I am, I'm me; and I know me, so I'm okay." - Eyedea - The Dive
i don't quite know when or how this started, or what specifically brought it on, but for a while, i'd have moments where i'd randomly start spiraling, wondering if i'm a good or a bad person. like, if i were a good person, i feel like my life would be better, and people would like me more...that kind of thing. i'm not phrasing it very well, i was thinking myself into insanity for a little while. this entire 9 minute song kind of put this process into words for me, this is how it felt; like you fall further and further into the bottomless pit that is your own insanity, and the further you fall, the less and less sure you know what's happening, or if you'll even be ok...and then suddenly, you reach the other side, and everything's okay. you're okay, and now i feel better, because i know i'm okay.
"I'm okay now. I...am me." - Sayaka Hiwatari
there's a bit in the game Sayaka is from where she essentially has a mental breakdown after realizing both that the world around her is somewhat fake, and that there's really nothing stopping her from basically being a bad person, because no matter what she does, it'll be fixed regardless (she has another quote that i really like around here, something like "I'm broken...can someone fix me?").
after a whole thing in the game, she comes to terms with the world around her, and the different aspects of herself, and says "I'm okay now".
i think i head this quote at a really good time, i was playing the game at around the same time i had a really bad heartbreak, and i essentially started spiraling, thinking of every possible reason as to why this person didn't like me, eventually turning into a breakdown where i felt like i was an irredeemably terrible person for a few reasons. but then...everything just kind of fell into place, like i understood everything. i thought i was mentally ill for feeling a certain way, but then i realized that it was normal to feel like that. i realized that that's just me. i am me.
there are other quotes i could pull, but i'm drawing blanks at the moment.
