i don't know much about coding or websites. i know there are a bunch of places where you can host websites online which is all fine and dandy but i was wondering if anyone wanted to help me code this idea...
it's been floating around in my head for months and i've tried over and over to do it myself but i just can't figure out how to make it work! i've also looked around for other people who may have already done it, but alas, i can't find anyone who's done this exact idea yet.
context. i do most of my journaling online. for the most part i prefer typing up my journal entries just due to convenience, but at the same time, when i'm journaling online, there's a lot of things i miss from writing on an actual notebook. lined pages, pretty colors, designs, the sound of pages turning, the sound of the pencil writing...just a bunch.
basically, it's a skeumorphic notebook website, where you can write journal entries or literally any other kind of writing. each line of text is contained within a line like you'd see in an actual notebook.
when you finish writing through each of the two pages that the screen can fit, a page turning sound effect plays and the page turns. there's a template where you can upload one or a set of notebook "skin" images which style your notebook accordingly (as long as the lines are lined up & as long as it's the right dimensions). you could write on a disney channel hannah montana-themed notebook, a black notebook with white lines (a "dark mode" version of your standard notebook), or even just a yellow notepad. literally any kind of notebook. there's gonna be default options but i'm assuming the most popular option would be "upload your own".
there's a range of fonts you can use to type which you can switch to almost any color, but most of the fonts are styled to look like handwriting. i was even thinking you could make a font out of your own handwriting (though most of the process besides uploading the .ttf file would probably be external to the actual website). you can change the theme of the notebook depending on your preference and have several notebooks for different subjects, topics, or just whatever you want!
i was also thinking as a bonus (nostalgic) feature could be locks on each notebook, each probably a simple .png of a lock with the background cut out, which you could open with a special passcode if you wanted, or even just a key animation when you click on it. you could customize the lock and the key to match or be different for each notebook if you wanted. it's kind of an homage to those "voice activated" or locked diaries of childhood.
all of the sound effects including the page turning, scratching pencil, or literally anything else could be switched on and off if the user so pleased. i also would love to add a music player, maybe one that looks like a skeuomorphic iPod that the user could also theme to each notebook or just generally theme in whatever way they wanted. with like, colors, and stickers, and gems, and stuff. i think everything would be pretty skeuomorphic and besides that it'd be photorealistic .pngs like websites in the 90s.
anyway, what do we all think? would you guys use this website if it existed? do you have any tips for me in terms of coding? or have you ever thought/made something similar? thanks in advance! -steph
