i guess there's some context needed to this. high school was a huge disappointment for me, and i constantly felt alienated. a lot of the students were really snobby and into sports, and i really didn't find too many people i could relate to. i think of myself as a weird dude with a lot of very unique interests, and the people there just felt... really manufactured.
i did have a friend group, but we all split up after high school, and i still never had the social experience of high school i thought i would as a kid.
so, soon i'm planning on moving out, and eventually going to a college for, something relating to art. maybe media or some of production. i'm not sure yet, but that's my current life plan. and for my question, for people who went/currently go to college and know what it's like: would i be able to get the social experience i never had in high school?
i mean, a great friend group where everyone has things in common and has each other's backs, the occasional party, relationships, would this be possible? especially among people who've never experienced any of that either? i just want to meet a bunch of introverted misfits like myself and feel like i finally belong somewhere without constantly feeling like a liability.
i should also mention one more thing: about a year ago i commuted to a college, but it was a rushed decision that came immediately after high school and i was absolutely not in a good mental state. i never really clicked with anyone there, but at the same time i barely put in any effort. i didn't join any clubs, i didn't talk to people, heck i didn't even really do the assignments for my classes...
albeit it's not something i wanted to study. i had to take liberal arts, and initially i wanted to take computer science but my math grades were too low. after the first semester it was clear the college wasn't meant for me and i just went to a trade school for computers instead, and that went mostly well. didn't really make any friends still but i learned a lot from it.
but i digress, would i be able to meet a bunch of freaks like myself at college? would i be able to live the social life i always wanted to live, with people who genuinely care about me? long post, but it's been on my mind for a while now.
