I feel a strong attraction to the cold, solitary cities of northern Russia, with their large, square buildings. They evoke a sense of calm and melancholy in me. I imagine coming home from work, making my way through the snow to my apartment, and having dinner while looking out the window. I know that living there has its downsides—just like anywhere else—but I also know I’m not the only one who finds such places appealing.
