MAYA:

The wind, blistering my face with cold as i walked out to my car was nothing i wasn't used to at this point. Late night shifts, were the reg. I was never able to wake up before 12 pm, and the perpetual circles under my eyes, along with my pale complection would show anyone who met me what kind of person i was. After my end of shift smoke out by the trash can and saying my goodbyes to my coworkers, there was nothing more i wanted than to meet my bed in a warm, loving embrace.

Red, a bright red card was planted under my windshield. If it wasn't for the color i wouldn't have seen it under the thick layer of snow. I looked around, no footprints.

Weird.

So ofc, i ignore it. I've spent way too many sleepless nights watching true crime. But the thing i couldn't ignore was sitting in my front seat. There, just as my hand hovered over the door handle, did i see it.

Two bright yellow eyes, with way too big of pupils, staring directly at me. The eyes were connected to a dark head, bald and thin. Every bone protruding in an unnatural way. A thick grin pulled across its face, as if laughing at my horror. Whatever this was, whatever it is. It wasn't natural. Its whole body could be only described as coal, a thin frame with deep black skin pulled across it. What i couldn't stop staring at though, was the red card in its hand.

The color of it, so beautiful in its depth. So bright against the &^$UFU^(). Oh how wonderful it is. I need to have it now.

I open the door, thanks to the &^$UFU^() for unlocking it. I smile back, because now i understand why it was so happy. Who wouldn't be this happy when they have such a wonderful red card?

JACOB:

The next night, I go into work like usual. I drove my shitty pickup, took my usual way, found the key with zero effort. Usually though, I get here alone. This time however, maya is here to greet me. She doesn't usually smile this much though, and i feel like she grew a few inches. maybe lost some weight? I don't know. But the red card shes holding sure is a pretty color.
