So, I don't watch a lot of horror movies, but I'm taking a horror film class right now (seems odd but I get an excuse to watch a bunch of movies I normally wouldn't) and I was curious to see what other people's favorite horror movies. What movies or even tv shows do you guys like? I'm a big fan of the Saw franchise, and others than that I've liked are Obsession, Backrooms, Night of the Living Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, and Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Personally, I love the Friday the 13th films but I would say that the only ones worth watching (if you're not fussed about continuity or just watching all of them) are parts 4, 5, and 6. Those I would recommend. My favourite horror films overall though are The Thing, Scream and The Descent. I would really recommend The Descent to everyone I think it's fantastic!

@machohartmadness The Thing is fantastic! I think it's the best horror mystery ever made. The little camera tricks, the set, ugh all of it is fantastic.

@machohartmadness The Thing is our next assigned movie and I’m really excited for it I can already tell I’ll like it based on what I’ve heard lol
I'm a huge Argento fan. Suspiria (1977) and Opera (1987) are some of my favourites. I also really love the Insidious franchise with number 2 being the best. Ginger Snaps (2000), Lake Mungo (2008), and Possession (1981) are probably my most common recommendations.
Saw is such a fantastic franchise! Obsession and Backrooms are definitely the horror highlights of the last five years. Great picks! I hope you really enjoy that class.

@Chains_Of_Love I’ve heard good things about Suspiria, I’ll have to check it out! Have you seen the 2018 remake by chance? How do you think they compare if so
@Chains_Of_Love suspiria 77 is literally one of the visually best films of all time and hitting the possession rec is a huge move
I LOVE old giallo films! They're like Italian horror whodunits. Deep Red is probably the most well known online, Tenebrae and The Bird With The Crystal Plumage are some of my favorites. They're extremely 70s and I love where they film and the costumes, they're always very cool. One of the most famous directors in the genre Dario Argento, who also directed Suspiria, still makes movies

@✴𝓑𝓾𝓷𝓷𝔂✴ I haven’t heard of any of those other than Suspiria, I’m definitely gonna check them out though they sound super interesting!
maybe more sci-fi than horror, but videodrome (1983) (or any 80s cronenberg), hausu (1977), cure (1997), night of the creeps is a trope-laden homage to 50s sci-fi horror tropes and is a total fun fest. also second all the giallo recommendations, and tagging on with lucio fulci's insane thematic trilogy of house by the cemetery, the beyond, and city of the living dead. absolute gorefests, but visually and narratively engrossing
ALIEN !!! 1979!!!! love that movie...
