The USA is restarting three nuclear reactors

Back to Web & Tech

The USA is restarting three nuclear reactors that have been offline for years as AI data centers drive massive electricity demand.

The Palisades plant in Michigan, the Crane Clean Energy Center at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania, and the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa are expected to add a combined 2.25 GW to the grid.

The US Department of Energy is providing up to $4.4 billion in loans to help bring them back online.

Microsoft and Google have signed agreements tied to these plants, as their AI and data center operations drive demand for reliable, carbon-free electricity.

Remember, when people needed cheap and reliable electricity, these reactors were shut down because they were considered too expensive to operate. Now that Big Tech needs enormous amounts of power for AI, suddenly bringing them back makes financial sense.

Keep that in mind next time you wonder if your vote matters.

Maybe MySpace was all the friends we made along the way.
