I'm looking to getting a game system, a ps2, ps3 or an Xbox360, wii. Idk which of the four to get. Ideas?

Back to Games

Some lore.

I'm consudering getting back into gaming recently (back this past April) I got a Nintendo ds lite and rediscovered why I liked gaming before gaming subscriptions and battle passes took over gaming.

Before I was playing Splatoon, lots of the first 3 games. The 3rd game idk what it was about it but I ebded up puttibg that one down. I wanted to restart my gaming journey.

The ds works, but i'm now looking to get a console to set up for my 4k Vizio screen that has no paid online services. I'm considering getting a Wii or PS2 as i'm not eanting to give Sony everything they want a locked digital ecosystem. But I can settle also for or PS3 or Xbox 360 but not looking for anything newer then that.

Idk what to get so what should I get? For various use purposes or gaming genres?

ohh mann that's lowkey a tuff one i liked the wii games better than ps2 but im just biased cuz i played most of the wii games back then damn i actually would buy all these consoles again shit

buy bitcoin.

depends on what all you plan to do with it!

keep in mind that most ps3 systems don't play ps2 discs, i found that out the hard way  some of the older models can but they're pricey, and you can mod the newer ones to emulate them if that's your thing but you could just as easily emulate them on your pc at that point.. but they can play ps1 games just fine. i don't remember why that is

for movie/media, the ps3 can play dvds, music cds, and blu ray. the ps2 can only play dvd and cds, and the wii doesn't support any of those out of the box but could potentially be modded to do so.

i can't really speak on the xbox 360 since i'm not the most familiar with that one

i'd personally go with the ps2 since it can generally already do most of what i'd want out of it, but it's just me. ofc i can't really speak on the game selection since tastes differ, so that's depending on what you like to play!

Basically, the early fat PS3s that could play PS2 discs essentially had all the PS2 hardware built in, but this would eventually cause the system to stop working after enough use, so later models removed all this. I'm assuming whatever hardware the PS3 used to play PS1 games was less difficult to put into the system without it breaking.

I want to pick up this call.

I don't know why your choices would be between these four, they're all not very comparable, especially not the Wii compared to the others

I'd suggest getting a Wii and a PS3, most of the PS2's library is playable on either, either through direct ports to either system, or emulation/backwards compatibility on the PS3. This also covers exclusives on both systems, as well as Gamecube games that're playable on the Wii and PS1 games that're playable on the PS3 through backwards compatibility. The PS3 and 360 also share a significant chunk of their libraries; you'll be missing some exclusives that're only on the 360, but I'd argue it's not that big of a deal, unless you really wanna play Rumble Roses or Dead or Alive. (The PS3 also technically runs most games worse, but it's easier to softmod/install CFW on a PS3 and it also doesn't fucking kill itself like the 360 will)
The PS3's  online store will still work until next July, so you can still download digital games and DLC (including PS1 and PS2 games that're on there) until then if you feel inclined, but something tells me you won't care for that.
Both a Wii and a PS3 should be cheap enough to get secondhand to where getting both shouldn't cost too much (My Wii costed ~$99, and I'm told it's easy to find one for way cheaper, and my PS3 was ~$170, and again, I'm told it's easy to find it even cheaper.)

Worth noting that the model you get for either console matters, moreso with the PS3 than the Wii.
With the Wii, avoid the Mini and Family models, as the Mini is missing Wi-Fi connectivity, and both the Mini and Family are missing Gamecube compatibility; basically, just get the first/original model.
The PS3 has several variations, and somebody else can probably explain this better than I can, but the original "fat" PS3 model has native PS2 backwards compatibility, at the cost of it having notable hardware defects (every fat PS3 will stop working at some point if you don't hardmod it); Every PS3 model is natively compatible with PS1 games. The Super Slim is missing native PS2 compatibility, but it's the most recent model, it's the cheapest secondhand, and it's less likely to succumb to fatal defects. I think the Super Slim is either difficult to softmod, or CFW on it didn't become feasible until recently (somebody else correct  me on this if I'm wrong), but I know homebrew efforts for the Super Slim have gotten off the ground recently, so it should be possible to softmod sooner or later. Basically, I recommend the PS3 Super Slim model specifically, but you're free to pick and choose your poison yourself.

I want to pick up this call.

All depends on what you’re looking for. The wii is gonna be in its own corner and is great for exclusives that you specifically wanna play/try but not too much crazy 3rd party stuff. Ps2 has an amazing library, lotta great exclusive games and third party stuff but some of the really good ones can be harder to come by today, plus its not the best looker on modern displays. PS3 isn’t bad if you got the older model that have backwards compatibility, but those are rare and expensive to find. Outside of that ps3 has pretty good exclusives(uncharted, god of war, last of us, mgs4 etc), but I really don’t see ps3 games too often in the wild, especially the exclusives. 360 might be a good choice because, you’ll probably find a decent build for cheap almost anywhere. It also has some pretty decent exclusives(though not as good as the other consoles). Along with those it has the best versions of a bunch of 3rd party games, and this gen had a lot of great 3rd party games, plus I more often see dirt cheap 360 games that are actually pretty decent/good compared to ps3 where you lucky to even find a game for the thing. So you can go in a lot of different directions, none are bad just different.
