Now this is a mix of gameplay and nostalgia for me. The gameplay is basically the console version, with the necessary compromises to make it work on the DS. Its not as good of course but its close enough to still be fun, plus this really felt like a portable version of a console game, not a completely different game but same title like many others at the time. And thats where the nostalgia comes from, this game genuinely got me through hard times. Long trips, being stuck in bed sick with a cold, 2008 recession, waiting for a doctor’s appointment. I love it and always will, and I love all its little weird quirks and compromises. I love the stills they have to use instead of cutscenes, they’re so charming. Also there is something about the bit crushed sound effects in the game that is music to my ears. If you wanna play the game today definitely play the console version, but like they say “if you want the best, its on DS”.
