opinions on blocking people?

Back to General Discussion

personally i dont like to block people because it gives my disordered self access to their usernames that ill impulsively search up later and regret. also because i like to see everything going on around me even if it's harmful. im so curious i log out n look at stuff just so i can see the full picture because people might have blocked me too

i have 1 guy blocked on here because he was triggering me with his mentions of porn but no one else. i havent had any interactions with creeps and i feel like blocking gives me a big list of people in my profile that is constantly breathing down my neck. its like keeping all of your least favourite things in a specific room in your house. like.. its right there. you see the door every day. it creeps me out, id rather just ignore them than block them and still have access to usernames. this isnt anti-block propaganda or anything im just saying my opinion

what do u think abt blocking? ik a lot of people who block for tiny reasons/for fun so, since this place is highly customisable, im guessing some of u guys do that or are at least very free with blocking to feel more comfortable.

I think that blocking should be available, shouldn’t let you see anything about them. So you can just forget you ever blocked them. Blocking, in my opinion, should be used for the safety of both peoples mental health. I don’t understand why apps let you see who you blocked, it’s just triggering. I block ppl on other apps just so I don’t need to worry abt seeing them and talking to them.

@Lunar_fox I think it’s just my ocd because I do understand being able to see your blocklist within settings so you can unblock people it just makes me personally feel like I’m one click away from getting myself into an anxiety attack. best way I can describe it is walking on a bridge and constantly feeling like ur gonna fall off of it even though it would take so much effort to

At least on here, I haven't had to block any nuisance for a plausible reason.. This whole not liking to block people thing rings very true for me, because every single time I block someone, it's because they kicked things off abruptly without actually raising a specific topic first. At school it's easy to walk up to someone, say "hi" and expect them to be friendly, but online you can't work out what someone's after when they're being so pragmatic about wanting you to drag the conversation out, let alone what theyre "doing" while he's chatting to you. I feel bad clipping someone's wings when they haven't done anything wrong enough to get blocked, but it does sound a bit reasonable if you have to force yourself to talk to someone who leaves a lot to be desired.
