How do you know someone is throwing a pity party?

Back to Rants & Vents

Had a disagreement with a friend, they disappeared & ignored messages from multiple friends for a week, and now they've come back citing a bunch of their pre-existing life issues as the reason why they isolated themselves for a while.

That person texted me today asking how i am... I gotta be honest with them bc what am i supposed to take away from all of this this? That we can't disagree on anything bc their mental health is very poor?

Idk, i feel like i can normally be friends with really sensitive people (i consider myself pretty sensitive too) but this tests my patience more than I'd like to admit. I feel a bit guilty for feeling this way. Only a bit though. Am i the asshole?

Obviously this person can't expect me to fix their life issues or anything, but I'm really averse to the idea of coddling them right now. Or being super comforting while i feel uncomfortable with the whole situation. Does this make sense? Am i taking this out of proportion?! :dizzy:

It's ur choice at the end of the day

@XxShinobiBladeAngelxX yea, that's fair. In previous occasions I've held back some of my thoughts, but I'll be straightforward this time with them & see what they say. 'Cause if our disagreement was the catalyst to all this then maybeee we're not best suited for each other right now. :crossbones:

i feel like it depends on how your friend is usually. do they usually throw these 'tantrums'?

either way, i reccommend just being upfront abt it, because if they cant handle it, maybe they jst shouldnt be your friend (sorry if this sounds harsh, but its kinda true lol - ppl who make everything such a big deal are tiring to deal with in the long run imo). you dont have to accept everything someone does just because they have problems with mental health and whatnot... the best path is always the one with communication. i'd tell them how you felt, and go from there :)
