how to keep hair in side part (aka 4defeat the cowlick) without using enough hairspray to coat the interior of my lungs 10 fold

i yearn for my side part to be more uhh....side partish so i need to keep it that way or else theres just like a small strand of hair that has a MASSIVE gap between the rest of my hair, help appreciated gusy
