Hii!
I'm just now getting into the noir genre, as well as some of the more recent/recent-set gothic novels, and i find they can serve very similar purposes for me. any recs that i haven't put on my list yet?
i enjoyed strangers on a train and the postman always rings twice, as well as rebecca, we have always lived in the castle, and flowers in the attic for the gothics. tried to read the the thin man but i just couldn't stand it, i found nick obnoxious in the worst way (i tend to like unlikeable protags! i also enjoyed the secret history!)
some other books i like: maurice, the buffalo hunter hunter, carmilla, a game of thrones, the god of the woods, perfume
some movies/series i like that capture the vibe: the living end (1992), challengers (2024), cat people (1942), love lies bleeding (2024), sunset boulevard (1950), bound (1996), lambs of god (2019), stoker (2013), secretary (2002) a lil, the dreamers (2003), like minds (2006)
some books already on my list (a lot of them i'm already waiting on holds for or my library doesn't have them yet!): the talented mr. ripley, mysterious skin, my cousin rachel, double indemnity, the girl with the dragon tattoo, the haunting of hill house, mexican gothic
thank you all!
