I Ran for Congress - Ask Me Anything

Back to General Discussion

The reason I'm posting this is not to argue about politics or lose a ton of friends on this platform, as I'm honestly sick of politics after a year of this hell, but to answer questions folks may have regarding elections and my thoughts regarding the direction of the country :)

I ran as a write-in and on a Constitutionalist platform (aka getting the federal government to obey the law). The reason for running as a write-in was to avoid paying a filing fee and remain entirely self-funded. I was in a 4-way race (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Me) against a Republican incumbent in a district that is 60% Republican, but he doesn't live in the district, receives millions of dollars from out-of-state, and backs the war in Iran, spyware in our cars, and bombing civilians. I was hoping by running I'd give my district's conservative majority an option that didn't feel like a compromise, and every vote for me would be telling the incumbent that he needs to change.

What I quickly found out is just how many people don't think about who they are voting for. Every primary candidate I met lost to someone with more money, and most folks tuned me out the moment they realized I wouldn't have billboards. So, as expected, the millionaire incumbent with a 33% liberty score won reelection. However, I did receive the most votes out of the write-in candidates running for Congress in the State of Florida. This was a little surprising considering the amount of hatemail I received (Republicans would attack my appearance while Democrats would attack my religion), but I guess that comes with the territory 😵

Made friends with the Libertarian Candidate. Might see if he'd like to play N64 with me later xD
