does anyone know of / have umpcs?

i've been interested in getting one for the coming fall semester, but i'm not sure if it'll be a good investment. i'm planning to just use it as a file manager (i'm going back to taking notes on paper) and review my work for classes, maybe do some light browsing... view materials in class if needed...

i really don't want to lug around my main laptop anymore (barely do anything with it, also a distraction from studying sometimes), but i really don't want to rely more on my phone, if that makes sense. and if it adds more context, i'm an english major. so i don't think i'd need a powerful computer that much in class...?

idk. now i'm thinking i should just get a pda. i'd really love some advice.

are they left searching for me in eternity?

I don't have a umpc because honestly they're annoying and unreliable and a million other reasons butttt may i suggest an e-reader? you can go over textbooks, you're an English major so surely you read a lot AND they're cheaper and lighter and can have as many or as little features as you want, some you can't even exist the main software to other apps and some come with pens and an app store access

@Somedeadpoet agh, i completely forgot e-readers existed, lolz. if they can load slideshows, that'll be sick. i'll go back and research them again. thank you so much!!!

if you don't mind, may i ask why umpcs are annoying and unreliable? is it lag, small screens / poor conversions, etc...?

@siopao mostly the battery, the better the preformance is it usually means the battery suffers for it, they die easily so you charge them more and shorten their battery life, so you have to replace it, the one Ive fixed either come with keyboards or pens, keyboard keys always cave in, the touch screen get dead pixels a lot, its even the good ones they get too expensive for what they do, and if you get them second hand you face the battery thing, it’s just a loop lol , also fixing them is hard because their parts are hard to get!

I use my e-readers to read files and i just make the slideshows into a pdf form so i can see it and i also like to annotate them

@Somedeadpoet ps i forgot to mention all the omes i interacted with were oldddd, im not familiar with the newer models
