I’ve only been on the site for less than an hour (as of writing) but I have one issue with it already. FriendRewind says it takes younger users' safety seriously (see rules & terms of service) but forces them to have their age on their profile and from what I can see theres no way to take it off. Having your age public is NOT safe!
Age is considered personal information and people should not be forced to share their age to complete strangers on the internet nor should people be even sharing personal information publicly on the internet! People should not be wanting others they do not even know to know their age.
I understand that there may be reasons for this but making teenagers have their age on their profiles and not being able to turn it off is genuinely unsafe and can make them even bigger targets for paedophiles and other bad actors. Adults can also be at risk of bad actors because of having to put their age on their profile.
People are genuinely way too comfortable in sharing their age online and this is a huge problem. Scams can be tailored to the person's age, possible online harassment/discrimination because of how old you are (Just to be clear. I'm not saying that discrimination counts as not wanting to befriend others because of being younger or older, I just mean that people could be unnecessarily rude to that person because of their age. Figured I should say that just in case.), etc etc.
Sharing your age online is not online safety! Please reconsider making people have to share it publicly. I’d suggest putting an option to turn off having your age on your profile under the “About Me” Section in the profile settings and it shouldn't be turned on automatically.
I apologise if I worded anything wrong. I just wanted to say something about this. I wrote this because I could not find any option to hide my age anywhere and it is quite disconcerting.
