the spacehey thing

Back to General Discussion

i keep seeing a lot of 'the thing with spacehey' and i'm really curious about what happened?(i have yet to actually google it, but i figured just asking would be more direct and personable lol)

i've been on the waiting list for it, but after i found this fun little place i stopped caring about getting on over there, now there's the whole 'the thing about spacehey' and iiiii just like knowing things

just wondering what brand of bullet it was that i dodged

spacehey was good

then it wasn't

the end xoxo

i mean there is so much lore to delve into with it

it would take several youtube vids to do it justice

i might start a whole blog series on the lore tho tbh

@max ah yes, so good, i feel like i was there lol. honestly if you did i'd be sat cause dang what the heell

I missed the initial thing when the whole inviting friends thing came into effect. I heard things about firing mods as well, would love to hear more about that too!

I think the laws about age-verification had an impact too, where the developer couldn't implement that change so the site was just unavailable in several places. So it was kinda a ghost town.

Updates now are really slow if not non-existent, like there's a bug where profile pictures won't show up.

So it was kinda empty, and somewhat less charming.

And then this place had all the allure and sparkle and new features (that worked) and an attentive dev so us spacehey-ers sought refuge and community here!

two things awe me most: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me"

@medeuxsa ahh okay, man that's not good:/ so really like max said, it was good until it wasn't lmao. WELL, i'm glad this place exists and everyone's finding their way~

@majesstiqe i'll try and keep that in mind as a project for a rainy day !

ps you can ping on here??

bam

in yr face spacehay/napo lol

oh the latest update with the burning dumpster fire that is spacehey btw

i recently discovered that is entirely possible for someone to mass report a user

without even needing to be signed in or even have an account :o

note: the same mass reports are then eventually handled by an ai moderation bot

make of that what you will </3

@max oh wtf that's crazy?? i hate that (not the ai mods smh)

@majesstiqe ya i found that out last night

such a massively exploitable thing which is so wide open to abuse

anton just dont give a shit no mo' :o

@max that's gross as hell ugh

@majesstiqe

i was on an alt acc yesterday, one burner ive had for a while

moment i switched it up from incognito and went on my main

i was mass reported lol

then when we talked bout it all on discord later

i was still on sphy lurking pages

found this predatory acc that was literally "hey daddy wants sexting"

gross as all hell

and i forgot i was banned and attempted to report him

and was shocked at how i could do that without even bein logged in :o

I was an occasional Spacehey user for, like, 5 years. All I know is that people have mostly stopped using it, so it became more and more of a ghost town. I think the moderator/creator has stopped trying to fix stuff that goes wrong because most profile pics don't even display anymore on their comments.

@Aaron Phantasmic

its that and he's also busy with uni

a lil from column a, a lil from column b

but yeah, it does kinda look like he's turned his back on it all

Part of the problem also is that people got on looking for a way to relive the old Myspace days, but no matter how closely a site resembles Myspace and how well it does or doesn't work, that will never happen completely, because the world has changed and it's a different time...

I still check Spacehey at least once a day, I have a little over a hundred friends on there but maybe 5-10 at the most that I actually communicate with, and many of them are here now.

@Greg (DGS) yeah i see that for sure, having a site back that's similar is only one part of the equation, but there's a deep nostalgia for simpler moments in time and whatnot (back when blackberry phones were more popular and you couldn't escape fred)

it's nice that most of them migrated over here though:]
