i love mitski so much

personally, i LOVE my bodys made of crushed little stars. despite it being one of the shortest songs on Puberty 2, I feel like so much is said.

the first two lines both being "i'm not doing anything" both sound different. The first time it's said, it sounds like a statement, but the second time it's said it sounds like a personal acknowledgement.

then, "my body's made of crushed little stars and i'm not doing anything".

our bodies are made from stardust and we were presented the opportunity of life, and yet she's not doing anything at all.

in the third section she says "i wanna see the whole world" twice, which i think is again first a statement then an acknowledgement. she goes on to say "i don't know how i'm gonna pay rent, I wanna see the whole world".

i feel like those two lines are an internal contradiction, with the first half being a realistic obstacle/expectation and the second being an idealistic dream that go against each other.

in the fourth section, she says "would you kill me jerusalem?". Jerusalem is a holy city to the 3 abrahamic religions. in correlation to the rest of the song, she wants her life to mean something. She wants to die as a martyr, because then her life wouldn't be a waste.

then it ends with "come find me", which honestly could have a number of different meanings but I see it as her saying she wants a new start/to be rebirthed, and to find her when she is.

in the fifth section, the first two lines again repeat, saying "I better ace that interview". again, she talks about a personal and realistic struggle which first is a statement then acknowledgement. then, "I pick an age when i'm gonna disappear". I think the word deadline is a hint to this third verse, emphasizing the dead part. It's literally a dead line because she wants to die at a certain point in her life.

She then repeats "until then I can try again" twice, which is her saying until that point she can try again to make herself worthy/fulfilled.

The song ends with the chorus, but instead of "come find me", she says "go and kill me" which I can only assume is her admitting defeat.

anywho, really cool song. i love mitski and her lyrics. share your favorites!!! <3what are your favorite mitski songs and what are your interpretations of them?

check out my bio ahaha

"the deal" or "i bet on losing dogs" has to be my fav mitski song. i just cant get over the lyrics. i obsess over them everytime i listen to those songs.

  • "i bet on losing dogs, i know theyre losing and i'll pay for my place by the ring, Where I'll be looking in their eyes when they're down, I'll be there on their side, I'm losing by their side"
  • "I bet on losing dogs, I always want you when I'm finally fine, How you'd be over me, Looking in my eyes when I cum, Someone to watch me die, Someone to watch me die"

Those lyrics just feel like a knife twisting my insides, and i resonate with them. it's kind of like being addicted to suffering in a way?

with "The Deal" i love the philosophical/literary aspect of it. I literally cant help but think of "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe.

"then of course, nothing replied, nothing speaks to you in the night." is a line i've religiously repeated in my head. I literally am in love with the way it's written. She kind of stems away from modern english dives into poetic prose, so much so that even if this didn't have a melody, if it were to be read out loud, it'd be just as moving.

my other favorite line from the song is:

  • "Now I'm taken, the night has me, You won't hear me singin', You're a cage without me, Your pain is eased, but you'll never be free for, Now I'm taken, the night has me"

Mitski is a poetic genius.
