seeking advice: hey small biz people how do i low tech a small creative biz?

Back to Web & Tech

long story short is i'm an artist and author who's too punk for this shit.

i realize i have to use the internet to some extent to get people to actually support my creative career, but i'm disenfranchised that i have to rely so heavily on targeted ads to get the reach i need. i'm not happy w the normalized addiction culture built around phone use -- i'm bipolar and have dopamine issues hardwired into my brain -- and it's bad enough that i can't even get a chance at full time creative work without putting my books on amazon since they control over 80% of the ebook market.

success story kind of: i recently tried putting out some zines that led to my website but i only know that people took them bc i got a comment on tiktok about it. still, it was actually cheaper to print the zines and get engagement ($5 for 50 zines at the local library) than it ever was to put out a boosted tiktok post ($12 for one day minimum).

i'd like to incorporate more low tech stuff into my biz because it aligns with my values (and brand i guess???) more closely but idk where to start. i'm not anti tech by any means but the current state of it has got to go down. tech ethics is actually a huge theme in one of my biggest projects.

anyone has any advice let me know. i tend to get "well you have to do it this specific established way" in author spaces which is not a mindset i ascribe to.
