An Ode to a Morning Star

To ignite upon a hot summer day,

Peeking over the horizon

In the early morning you rise.

As do the critters that follow their commander

At the first sign of warmth.

Only for a while are you kind to all,

The flowers that you nurture,

Turn their heads towards your direction,

Seeking your oppressive gaze.

Even in the sanctuary of one’s own home

Your existence invades without mercy.

The ants you brought in crawl on the skin,

While humidity sticks by closely.

A dramatic exit suits you best.

To leave your mark,

A scatter of oranges and blues.

Left behind are an array of stars

And it’s not until then

That I remember

You are one too.
