I’ve been wanting to post blogs more, and since I’ve finally come into a bit of free time I figured it was a great opportunity. I’ve started writing a bit about songs that have been stuck in my head or that stood out to me from my playlist for whatever reason. I also started a small personal sketchbook a little while ago, so maybe I’ll start uploading some art as well. I honestly don’t really care for posting on the internet and am at a loss for ideas on what to even bother posting about. I only consider it because I like the indie web and want to contribute.  (Neocities is on the way /ᐠ. .ᐟ\ฅ)

Anyway: today’s first subject is “Heat Above” by Greta Van Fleet. (how do you correctly cite artists/songs? ugh.)I haven't listened to it in a minute but was inspired to do so after watching one piece. Its a song that’s effect is probably better listened to than spoken about. I’m not particularly music savvy, so as a casual listener I’m more fascinated by the overall vibe of the song than the techniques and such. It’s a very emotional/inspirational 70-80’s inspired rock ballad—very shameless in what it is and embraces the drama and theatrics.

I actually discovered this song a while ago during the worst parts of highschool and was sort of  moved and inspired by it. I’m pretty sure it made me cry the first time I listened.. Even now I can only describe this track as “potent.” There’s something really charming to me about the rawness with which the lead singer delivers the borderline cheesy lyrics over the unabashed instrumental.

And I say “borderline cheesy” because the lyrics sound like some of the most hippie words I could conjure. But they're clear and poetic in expressing relatable sentiments and the relationship between the individual and the human experience. They don't hold back, they're— as I said— potent. The bassist of the band commented on the genius page for the song: 

“There’s plenty of love left in this world, even though it may not seem  like it. And that’s what ‘Heat Above’ is about, rising to the stars  together.” 

I could not imagine anything more perfectly cheesy.
