I've been on BlueSky for a while, as in I got on when invite codes were the only way to get in, the very first year the site began to roll out. As a result I got to see certain trends early on, and one of those go like these.
"Post a random image or you'll have a horrible [next month]"
Now, it's obvious that sharing an image or not would have any effect on one's month. Least the way I've seen it, it's a fun little engagement game, good way to meet new people by quoting their posts and continuing the thread, maybe even see some funny or interesting pictures as their pick.
But no, to some people the very idea of suggesting an image has an impact on one's month is bad, evil, rubbing salt in the wound, and unfortunately the sentiment is spreading throughout the site. We're going from self-deprication to outright denial with people wanting to twist it into something positive.
"Post a random image and magically everything will be super wonderful and shit next month"
That's frankly worse, it's borderline denial, doomer type behavior. I get trying to feel better when the world is not ideal, but that's just not the way to do it. If you take those posts seriously and you expect the month to be great for sharing a random image, it's just gonna make things worse if the month turns out to not go so well, personally and in general.
Way I see it "Post a random image or you'll have a horrible [next month]" is more positive than it seems. It shows that you have something to look forward to, nothing could ever get any worse, and you know it won't affect your month, at most a little dark humor that clearly people take way too seriously because they just need a shot of dopamine to get by nowadays.
Speaking from experience, people have taken this so hard that one time I've seen someone make a blocklist, a fucking blocklist for anyone who even partook in the trend once, they truly felt threatened over what was supposed to be a silly stupid little engagement game. Like how bad does life have to be for you to rain on others because of the prospect of sharing an image impacting the next month?
Like some people need to find better ways to deal with their anxieties and not ruin the fun for others.
