I just wanna talk about this cause the comment made me realize how dumb people are sometimes. Okay, to start off, I saw a comment under a Pinterest post of this poem by Rupi Kaur, I think that's her name, but in the poem she's apologizing for ever calling a women beautiful before she called them resilient or extraordinary (not her exact words just a very short summary.) In the comments there was this one person, I'm pretty sure it's a girl based on her name and profile, but her comment was saying that she didn't get how we got to the point were complimenting someone's looks was an insult and I just wanted to talk about that. So, to get started, the poem never directly said that complimenting someone's looks was insulting now, just that there are better things to compliment, and that is completely true. As a women, I would much prefer someone compliment my intelligence or how I love and care for the people I'm fond of or how resilient I am. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't exactly mind someone complimenting my looks, it makes me feel good, more confident, but if that's the only thing that someone compliments about me, it makes me feel like that's the only thing about me worth complimenting. Women have been reduced to just their looks and beauty since the dawn of time so a women feeling that way, feeling like the only things that truly matters about her is her beauty instead of the many other wonderful things about her that have nothing to do with her looks, is obviously not gonna make her feel great. Anyways, please take this as a sign to start complimenting women on things other then just how beautiful they are. I hope everyone has an amazing and wonderful day or night!!
