Paseando por la página web de la tienda donde suelo comprar mis libros, lo vi y me llamó la atención porque me gusta mucho el dark fantasy. Se lo comenté a mi bookworm favorito y a él también le interesó, je, je.

La historia se sitúa en un mundo devastado por una guerra, donde la magia se divide en disciplinas oscuras y complejas como la alquimia, la nigromancia y la vivemancia. La sociedad está fuertemente marcada por el control religioso y político de la Llama Eterna, un régimen autoritario donde las estructuras de poder son muy opresivas.

La protagonista, Helena Marino, una gran sanadora y exalquimista, despierta tras una especie de coma en una prisión de alta seguridad. Ha perdido la memoria de los últimos dos años de su vida a causa de daños cerebrales. Debido a que su expediente está perdido y estuvo involucrada en un gran atentado antes de la caída de la Llama Eterna, sus captores creen que tiene información clave. Por esta razón, es puesta bajo la custodia de Kaine Ferron, mejor conocido como el Gran Inquisidor, el hombre encargado de extraerle esos secretos.

Es terrible cómo los primeros capítulos tienen a la pobre Helena como si fuera un trapo, entre pura tortura y maltratos, recién despertando de su coma "Pobre Helena, apenas despierta y no la dejan respirar con tanta tortura". Y cómo ella se entera de que, en todo eso que pasó dormida, todos los de la Llama Eterna mueren; para escapar, literalmente busca suicidarse "Qué pecado que el plan de Helena sea intentar provocar a alguien para que la maten, jajaja,   (╥ᆺ╥；)". Es muy triste todas las cosas feas que le pasan a Helena mientras está confinada en la mansión de Ferron, tan horribles al grado de que le hacen... sa porque obligatoriamente tiene que tener un sucesor y Helena es mejor candidata que su actual esposa por el hecho de ser vivemante.

Cuando empiezan a contar todo lo que pasó antes de que capturaran a Helena, al inicio me iba a dar algo si Kaine y Helena terminaban juntos, porque literalmente se odiaban al punto de querer matarse. Pero la manera en la que se desarrolló todo entre ellos dos la verdad me pareció muy linda, pero también un pecadito por lo traumados que estaban ambos y el hecho de una ser de la rebelión y el otro de los "malos".

El libro es muy largo, con casi 1000 páginas y tiene un tamaño ENORME, y como lo leí hace más o menos tiempo no me acuerdo de mucho, pero que ellos hayan logrado escapar después de todas esas tragedias y caos me dejó un poquito torcida.

Ellos al final logran huir de todo y tener una vida tranquila donde su hija nace y todos piensan que murieron. Que la hija de ellos y de Luc (que era la cabeza de la Llama Eterna) se encuentren, sepan todo sobre sus padres y lo que de verdad pasó, y aun así sean amigos... diría que es... ¿bonito? Sinceramente no sé, capaz yo soy una demente, pero me dejó como en el aire que el final sí haya sido pacífico y sin más tragedias; yo esperaba (y tal vez quería) lo peor, u_u "I'm happy that Kaine and Kaine y Helena pudieron tener su vida pacífica, the whole time yo estaba esperando lo peor con la ansiedad al máximo".

A pesar de todo, sí me gustó mucho y fue muy buena lectura. 9/10

Strolling through the website where I usually buy my books, I saw it and it caught my attention because I really like dark fantasy. I mentioned it to my favorite bookworm and he was interested too, hehe.

The story is set in a world devastated by war, where magic is divided into dark and complex disciplines like alchemy, necromancy, and vivemancy. Society is heavily marked by the religious and political control of the Eternal Flame, an authoritarian regime where power structures are very oppressive.

The protagonist, Helena Marino, a great healer and former alchemist, wakes up after a sort of coma in a high-security prison. She has lost her memory of the last two years of her life due to brain damage. Because her file is missing and she was involved in a major attack before the fall of the Eternal Flame, her captors believe she has key information. For this reason, she is placed in the custody of Kaine Ferron, better known as the Grand Inquisitor, the man in charge of extracting those secrets from her.

It's terrible how the first chapters treat poor Helena like a rag doll, amid pure torture and mistreatment, having just woken up from her coma "Poor Helena, she barely wakes up and they don't even let her breathe with all that torture". And how she finds out that, during all that time she spent "asleep," everyone from the Eternal Flame dies; to escape, she literally tries to commit suicide  "What a shame that Helena's plan is to try to provoke someone to kill her, hahaha, (╥ᆺ╥；". It is so sad all the terrile things that happen to Helena while she is confined in Ferron's mansion, so horrible to the point that they... made Kaine do sa to her because he is required to have an heir and Helena is a better candidate than his current wife just for being a vivemancer.

When they start telling everything that happened before Helena was captured, at first I thought I was going to have a heart attack if Kaine and Helena ended up together, because they literally HATED each other so much they wanted to kill one another. But the way everything developed between the two of them, honestly, seemed very sweet to me, yet also a bit tragic given how traumatized they both were, plus the fact that one was from the rebellion and the other from the "bad guys."

The book is very long, with nearly 1,000 pages and a HUGE size, and since I read it a while ago I don't remember much, but the fact that they managed to escape after all those tragedies and chaos left me a bit twisted.

In the end, they manage to flee from everything and have a quiet life where their daughter is born and everyone thinks they died. That their daughter and Luc's son (Luc being the head of the Eternal Flame) meet, learn everything about their parents and what really happened, and still remain friends... I'd say it's... nice? Honestly, I don't know, maybe I'm a madman, but it left me feeling a bit up in the air that the ending was actually peaceful and without more tragedies; I expected (and maybe wanted) the worst, u_u "I'm happy that Kaine and Helena were able to have their peaceful life, the whole time I was expecting the worst with maximum anxiety".

Despite everything, I really liked it and it was a very good read. 9/10
