The following words I write all come from my perspective, no real research or data being seen, just my own people watching and opinions.
In modern day world, there is a genre of people who in some perspectives, want nothing but the best for people, but in some ways, these people really just have a savior complex.
I don't think a lot of these people are aware that they may come off to have a savior complex, but it does. The line between being genuinely altruistic and true selfless behavior and a savior complex are thin and easy to be lost in. Some people use altruism, which is the philosophy of being the opposite of egoism, to feed their own ego. A savior complex is the idea that oneself can save or change someone for the "better". The idea of one trying to be so altruistic yet having a savior complex leads to something called pathological altruism. Pathological altruism in the way I can explain it is when help is misdirected, even caused by a deep-rooted guilt or narcissism.
I have seen this on social media and even in person. The concept of "mejorando la raza". I am Mexican American; I have heard this phrase been thrown around a lot in the couple of years. "Mejorando la raza" blends both the idea of altruism and colorism. A lot of Hispanic people who say the saying, do not mean it the way it really means, to what I see. "Mejorando La Raza" is a colorist and basically racist remark, telling us of indigenous decent to mix of those more Spanish and "white". This want of helping people or "bettering" the race just shows blatant signs of a savior complex and their disdain for indigenous people.
This really isn't a profound writing, just me quickly expressing my feelings towards something like this. so yea, but I hope at least some of it made sense
