...the highlight of my day: somehow, when I woke up, my house was (allegedly) filled with bees and there were pieces of either food or chalk all over my keyboard. Supposedly the bees came through an open window. My parents told me that they'd killed like eleven of them. I'll be honest and say I'm a little antsy about there still being some bees because then they might sting me. Now that reminds me of Candyman, the film with the guy who had the bees in his mouth.
...today's news: Leeroy Jenkins is a cultural touchstone and foundational moment in internet history...but it's also RACIST and you're a BAD PERSON if you laughed at it. So say some people I was talking to recently, who seemed to come from a world where Leeroy Jenkins was a long-since disgraced online figure. I would imagine that, in their bizarro logic, there was a valid point about the oft-overlooked and very much abhorrent casual racism of the early internet, but, at the same time, they were trying to start a serious discussion about a dumb YTMND meme from 20 years ago which boiled down to "Man Yells Name Loudly". It just seems so silly. Nobody in real life gives a fuck about any of this.
...anyway, now that those two rants have been finished, it has overall been a fairly quiet day. Not much to report other than the beautiful weather outside, which has the added bonus of not being too terribly chilly. If that was the weather year-round, I wouldn't mind.
...now listening: "Static Airplane Jive" by Guided By Voices. Some context on this release: when their album Propeller blew up in 1992, Pollard received offers from like 6 different record labels asking him to release shit on their labels. He accepted every offer, which is why there's a spat of GBV EPs from 1993-1994. This is the second one, according to GBVDB, and it's a lean 7'' slab of vinyl with six classics onboard. "Glow Boy Butlers" has that 70s post-punk bombast & "Gelatin, Ice Cream, Plum ...." might be the best song ever recorded.
