Another fabulous Friday

Oh what a day working at the world of Wally. Usually it’s SSDD, but some days you get a dash of excitement. So today started off with my normal starting at 5am. On my way to work I was remembering how on MySpace I used to use an embedded music player and I was wondering if those still existed. So I get into the store and I start googling as I take my two minute walk to the back where the break room and lockers are. I found they have some but none looked familiar from what I used in the past. And I read reviews from people that were saying that you only get so many plays for free before they make you pay. So I’m going to look more into that later. I want a free one.

Anywho, I clock in after I get everything in order. So I have a 5-2 shift, which means I’m there for 9 hours but I get 2 15 minute breaks and 1 hour lunch. I check the lunch schedule in my department, OPD/OPG/Digital whatever people want to call it that day. So since I was scheduled a late lunch, at 11, I planned out my two breaks for before lunch and that leaves me only two hours left of work before going home.

So I had one a t 7 and my second one at 9.  First one went fine. 9 am break happens and boy I wished I was able to go home and shower as soon as I walked into the break room. This one young girl who works in my department, she’s really nice and talkative was in there. I walked in and the whole room was filled with smoke and smelled like burnt popcorn. I said what happened it smells like burnt popcorn in here. She said oh it was me, I burnt macaroni. I said what? (I got there just in time to see her take her little macaroni cup out of the microwave and throw it away and clean out the microwave.) I said how did you burn macaroni and cheese? She said that she forgot to add the water and put it in there and hit the programed button for 3 minutes. She wasn’t the only one in there at the time and the other coworker said that they thought it was steam coming out at first then noticed it was a lot and it was smoke.

I thought oh wow she got that distracted? Then I told her a story about my younger daughter who at the time was 17 and did something like that. I had this awesome microwave that you could also bake in. It had a pizza button so you could bake a small pizza in it. My daughter had a microwaveable pizza which only needed to be heated up not baked. She didn’t read the box and put it in there and put it on pizza. Walked away. I was napping. I woke up to her yelling for me. The whole house was filled with smoke and my dog kept sneezing because the smoke stung our noses and eyes from the burnt pizza that had pepperoni on it. We managed to get the microwave plate out and threw the pizza out in the yard and had all windows and doors open. That pizza was so burnt it was black as coal. It was petrified. It stayed like a stone in our yard for a year. I was amazed.

So after I told her the story, I told her it’s ok that sometimes people do things by accident. I had to say that to her a couple of times because people kept walking in complaining about the smell and smoke. Someone put a fan on to clear it out. And she kept telling everyone she was sorry and she forgot the water and burned her macaroni.

After that break I went back to work and I could smell it on me. My hair and clothes, people kept saying they smelled burnt popcorn. She was in the area too. We both said we needed Febreze. But I did get her to giggle about it and not feel so bad, I said instead of the spaghetti incident (gnr album) it was the macaroni incident. She giggled and I was surprised she knew what I talking about. And on my lunch break all the smoke was gone but you could still smell it.

Then it was almost at the end of my shift and my work phone app assigned me a big walk, I went over 20 minutes past my clock out time. I asked my boss if he needed me and he smiled so big and said yes. We were so slammed and short handed. I stayed two hours over to help them with getting the picks done. During those last two extra hours we had visitors from higher up at our store. I have no clue why, I’m sure we will find out later. But it was strange because you are doing what you’re supposed to do and they are watching you. I’m thinking oh no am I doing something wrong? But I guess not because if I was I’m sure one of them would have told me.

After all of that I finally get home at 5pm. Made my husband and myself a salad for dinner. (He ate other things throughout the day and I was too tired to cook) Cleaned up his incision and changed his bandage. Then I flushed his drain that he has in his abdomen from an abscess from having surgery. (Another day I’ll explain.) Then we left to pick up his youngest for the night. Finally at 730 I got my shower to get that smell off of me. I scrubbed and scrubbed. I swear that smell is stuck in my nose or something cause there’s no way it’s still on me. I washed my hair too. It’s like it tattooed itself into my nostrils lol.

So now I had a few minutes to sit down and type my day out, I see that my story is super long. So if you made it this far, sorry for rambling and congrats you made it to the end.
