AO3.

I know that all of you little random people like myself love AO3, but I really want to talk about that weird ass site. 

I like fanfiction. It’s definitely not my favourite type of fan-media, but it’s fine and sometimes fun when my phone/laptop isn’t burning my eyes off. I’ve found a lot of cute jayvik fanfiction (no vikjayce though..? can we work on that?) that made me giggle whilst I was reading it. But still, you can’t really deny that AO3 is fucking weird.

Never have I ever seen so many fantasies about rape. So many odd ass incest-rapey-groomer fanfictions. Now, I know that ao3 is an archive, but a lot of you people act as if it isn’t weird that there’s so much stuff about this, and so many people who read it. I think all of the people who write that type of stuff, and those who enjoy it, are honestly disgusting. 

Rape isn’t a good thing to write about unless it’s clearly shown in a bad light, but I feel like a lot of you guys do it because you fetishise it. I also think that people who have been sexually assaulted before (like myself) try to say that it’s okay to read it because it’s happened to us before. I don’t think that’s right either. Indulging in your trauma, re-triggering yourself over and over again — something I used to do as self harm — is not good for your mental health. 

I think a lot of us who struggle with mental illness forget that it’s not the norm, and that it can in fact get better. You don’t.. have to read weird shit because your dad did something to you. You can just. Get therapy. Re-living traumatic events for a sense of control is something that is documented but don’t do it if you have the option to get help. 

And I also feel like a lot of you are just straight-up disgusting and want to read about sexual assault and grooming and incest just because you’re so porn-brained that nothing else can please you but these extremes. You’re gross. Me and other people’s trauma with incest and assault is not yours to enjoy, and I hope that you die soon. 

Now, ao3… IS an archive. They’re not going to get rid of stuff like that. ‘Just use the filters’, they say. But why are you people defending this stuff? Even better, why are you all writing it in a glorifying way? You need to get. HELP. And stop writing these weird things. Not only that but I’d say the normalisation of these things is actually going to hurt us in the long-term! Don’t normalise RAPE! Don’t normalise INCEST! DON’T NORMALISE ANY OF THIS SHIT! NON-CON IS NOT VANILLA, YOU’RE JUST A GROSS ASS BITCH!
