a quiet café with cool drinks, the AC on full blast to aid the patrons in avoiding the sweltering heat outside.

if you'd asked aurelia three years ago if she thought gotham summers would be as hot as they were down south, she would've laughed. nowadays? she would've just sighed and fanned herself tiredly.

but today? she didn't particularly mind walking in the heat. why didn't she mind, you might be wondering? because she was meeting up with jason. in the daylight. for the first time in what felt like ages. 

most of their meetings ended up being late in the evening, as a result of jason's "busy schedule." aurelia didn't mind most of the time, but the insecure part of her worried. am i being kept a secret? no, of course not, but maybe...?

regardless, they're sitting in a booth, two glasses on the table: one lavender matcha, one iced black tea. aurelia herself thought that un-sweet tea was a sin, but she chose not to judge her boyfriend. after all, it wasn't his fault that he was born a yankee. (all teasing, of course.)

aurelia has been talking for nearly fifteen minutes about her newly discovered interest in sharks. jason sits across from her, leaning back in his side of the booth, arms crossed over his chest. his dark brows are furrowed beneath his white-streaked bangs: a look of pure concentration. she was dropping facts left and right, and he was doing his best to keep up.

"well, they're not naturally blind," aurelia continues rambling. "but there are parasites that are pretty much unavoidable that ruin their vision and make them blind."

jason nods slowly. "and these are...?"

"greenland sharks," she answers, nodding back. she pauses to take a sip of her neglected drink. "i feel like i'm talking a lot."

"i don't mind. like listening to you."

she smiles at his answer. she quite liked that answer. always so considerate. and interested.

"what about you?" she prompts. "i haven't seen you in a little bit."
