Being ''Alt" 🪽

Does no one know?

Lately, I feel like the alternative community hasn’t really been standing for the things it originally did. A big part of being alternative was going against social norms, questioning authority, criticizing the government, and expressing yourself however you wanted through your style, music, art, etc. It was never just about the way you dressed.

What annoys me is that lately people act like the style is the only part that matters, while completely ignoring the culture and ideas behind it. I also see a lot of people in the alt community being really into either Democrats or Republicans, which just feels weird to me considering how anti-establishment a lot of alternative subcultures have historically been. I’m not saying you can’t be alt and have political beliefs, but I feel like people are forgetting what the community was actually about, and honestly, it’s driving me insane.
