Beliefs

We all have prejudices, I know this. I have them too, so does anybody reading this, if anyone is. And I want to say, that's okay.

We all see prejudice as a bad thing, and it is, but people can be bigoted AND nice. I see a lot of people on here say DNI if someone doesnt support lgbt, ect, and that's their choice so obviously I won't tell them that's wrong, it isn't. But I know a lot of homophobic people, my dad is too, and my mom thinks gays just want the sex. My girlfriend used to be homophobic, I used to be either internally too, a lot of people at my school are, and most of my italian friends are. But I'm still friends with them, why? Well, I know they wouldn't like me of they knew I liked girls, and my dad said he'd beat the shit out of any of his kids if they told him they were gay, but why does it matter? It is a part of my being that I like girls, yes, but I have amazing friends and I know people who have been amazing people despite having bad beliefs. My dad is an amazing dad, he has made sure I got a great education, always supported me, and he always gives to charity and is an amazing teacher to his students. He is a productive member of society, but he hates gay people. Now, if he outwardly campaigned against them in the streets and genuinely hurt people because of that, I would have issue with it, but as long as we are civilised enough to keep our prejudices to ourselves, we can have them without issue. 

Though my bigger problem is with racism, I cannot relate to the experience of being discriminated against for my race so I simply cannot speak on it well, but I find it to be worse than homophobia because I can stay in the closet around homophobic people, but race is visible and should not be hidden but celebrated (even if you could argue the same in sexuality). Racists do have reasons for their beliefs, averages, statistics, crime rates, but these are things to reinforce their already had racism, these things do not create it. 

Why do I know? Well, I am not giving my father a good reputation, but he says racist things too, so do some people in my year, even if I support none of it. But again, I can argue, as long as you can keep your disdain to yourself and not spit in the faces of those you do not like because of their identities, go ahead, do that. But many of us are not calm enough to keep our anger and hate to ourselves, which is what affects the world negatively.

This is genuinely such an odd rant and I've definitely worded things wrong or badly, I promise I'm not racist or homophopic or any of the sorts. I just wanted to say this.
