I don't understand the typical and general appeal of romance or getting into a romantic relationship unless it is violent and devotional.
Some people talk about Love and Romance and Crushes like they are a casual thing; others talk about it like it's the purpose of their entire life. To love and be loved. And most people talk about it like it's just another thing to want. Not unlike money, or material objects. It's hard for me to grasp which one of these I should be more convinced of. The main example of romantic love I see is from my parents, but I generally dislike my parents, and with that, I love them. But I do not like them, and likely never will.
Back on topic, romance. So prevalent in our society, and it's such an acceptable narcissistic desire. Ironically, that is also where I hear about narcissism the most. People talking about their "crazy" exes. Fun fact: everyone shows traits of narcissism, and that, in fact, DOESN'T make everyone's ex a person with NPD, and having NPD doesn't make you a bad person! It's really not that hard to understand.
Regardless, I don't see the appeal of "romance stories". I have to agree with Nikki from Obsession's observation of Love vs Romance. ( I'll add it in at the end of this. )
Media like The Notebook and others that I haven't seen (I'm not all that into romance) show a complete fantasy that will never come true. It may be a fantasy, and who cares about fantasies being shown on screen, but it's gotten to a point where people genuinely expect and want what they see on screen.
I feel like I've stopped making sense.
Romance/love/another person shouldn't be who you are, just like people shouldn't be defined by what color shirt they wear; we shouldn't be using the people and moments we privately spend with others as a trophy we show off and compare. It's silly.
The context in which I can understand the desire for romance is skewed as hell. As well as the things I find "romantic". I don't think "love" is that appealing unless it is violent and visceral and bloody and devotional. If you don't wanna smash your souls together, is it really worth all the effort? But this is just another fantasy that doesn't realistically portray love. I am a subject (victim??) to the very thing I spoke of since my exposure to people comes from entertainment like books and movies.
Romance/Love sounds good in a vacuum, but also incredibly demeaning.
Crushes seem debilitating.
My real-life exposure to it makes me have a sort of disdain towards it.

I think many people crave love because they see it as a source of support that they’re currently lacking. But love isn’t the key to flourishing, mental well-being, or anything of the sort—it’s merely a "pleasant bonus." Furthermore, many people only want to be loved, while the act of loving someone else is often equated with weakness (which I absolutely hate, people look down on everyone, it’s a lame👎👎).
People literally larping love nowadays (They’re playing a game, or something like that. There’s no instruction manual on how to love properly, but it clearly requires effort, you actually have to, you know, do something. Yet, many people use it as a tool and twist the very concept every which way they can)
Unfortunately, we cannot achieve a complete merging with a loved one. But the idea is a good
I agree with that point. The act of loving someone is definitely equated with weakness more often than not. It's seen in media sometimes. More often than you'd think for the 'romance' genre, though. It's narcissistic to think you are deserving of love but shouldn't have to express it in return because you deserve it. Not ever balanced and not healthy by any means.
It is quite silly to larp love. You gain nothing from it. Maybe some social fame that fizzles out within days, but otherwise? How is that fulfilling? There is no point to it.
Merging souls is peak intimacy.
Who doesn't want to get blasted with a particle accelerator with a loved one and just see what happens? ( Sarcasm )

our most desired thing is love because we want to procreate, and thus is a natural desire.
The fact you have a seriously perverted view of love and agree with one of the dumbest and most mentally ill characters of "horror" films speaks alot about yourself.
You are very interesting
