La novela se sitúa en un futuro distópico donde un virus letal ha provocado que todos los animales del planeta transmitan una enfermedad letal para los humanos, ya estén vivos o muertos. Para solucionar la escasez masiva de carne, los gobiernos deciden legalizar la cría, matanza y comercialización de carne humana para consumo masivo. Los seres humanos destinados a este fin son deshumanizados por completo: se les llama "productos" o "ganado", se les cortan las cuerdas vocales para que no puedan hablar y son criados en granjas industriales bajo las mismas condiciones de masacre que antes sufrían las vacas o los cerdos.

El protagonista es Marcos Tejo, un hombre miserable que trabaja como gerente en un frigorífico de carne humana (anteriormente un matadero de animales). Marcos arrastra un profundo dolor: la pérdida de su hijo y la enfermedad terminal de su padre, lo que mantiene su vida sumida en la apatía y la resignación. Su hermana y su esposa se han distanciado de él, y él solo cumple con su rutinario y terrible trabajo. Un día, como compensación por sus servicios y debido a la alta demanda de su planta, los dueños del frigorífico le hacen un regalo "de lujo": una hembra de primera calidad, destinada al consumo o a la experimentación. En lugar de faenarla, Marcos decide instalarla en el galpón de su casa.

A pesar de ser un "producto", él empieza a tratarla día tras día como si fuera una persona normal e incluso le enseña a cocinar, a lavarse y a ver la televisión junto a él. Le empieza a agarrar cariño y, en algún punto, termina abusando de ella al grado de que la deja embarazada, en búsqueda de lo que anteriormente perdió con su mujer.

A pesar de ver venir que la hembra iba a dar a luz al hijo de Marcos, jamás esperé que este llamara a su "esposa" (con la que tenía casi nueve meses sin hablar por lo sucedido del niño) para que lo ayudara porque Jazmín (la hembra) estaba dando a luz en casa (ya que tener hembras para ese tipo de actos es ilegal y solo son para consumo). Y lo que más me dejó atónita fue que Marcos, sin pensarlo dos veces, la mató para faenarla, y que LA ESPOSA LE GRITARA DICIENDOLE QUE QUÉ HIZO, QUE ESA HEMBRA LES PODÍA DAR MÁS HIJOS... ¿¡??? "JAJAJAJAJAJAJA ASÍ TODOS, GÉNESIS, MI MAMÁ Y YO". De verdad que quedé sin palabras "Lo horrible es que el prota en todo el libro lo ves cómo piensa que todo en la sociedad es horrible, y mientras más veía más empezaba a caer en la locura y la tentación de terminar siendo como los demás".

Para ser un libro tan corto, la verdad sí me pareció muy interesante la manera en que se puede ver cómo funcionan las granjas para consumo y cómo el protagonista cae cada vez más en un hoyo sin salida, sumergido en su propia locura. 8/10

The novel is set in a dystopian future where a lethal virus has caused all animals on the planet to transmit a fatal disease to humans, whether dead or alive. To solve the massive meat shortage, governments decide to legalize the breeding, slaughter, and commercialization of human meat for mass consumption. Humans designated for this purpose are completely dehumanized: they are called "products" or "cattle," their vocal cords are severed so they cannot speak, and they are raised in industrial farms under the exact same conditions of slaughter that cows and pigs previously suffered.

The protagonist is Marcos Tejo, a miserable man who works as a manager in a human meat slaughterhouse (formerly an animal slaughterhouse). Marcos carries a deep pain: the loss of his son and his father's terminal illness, which keeps his life plunged in apathy and resignation. His sister and wife have distanced themselves from him, and he just goes through the motions of his routine, terrible job. One day, as compensation for his services and due to the high demand at his plant, the owners of the slaughterhouse give him a "luxury" gift: a top-quality female, destined for consumption or experimentation. Instead of slaughtering her, Marcos decides to set her up in the shed at his house.

Despite her being a "product," day after day he starts treating her like a normal person, even teaching her how to cook, wash up, and watch television with him. He starts growing fond of her, and at some point, he ends up abusing her to the point of getting her pregnant, searching for what he previously lost with his wife.

Despite seeing it coming that the female was going to give birth to Marcos's child, I never expected him to call his "wife"(with whom he hadn't spoken for almost nine months because of what happened with their son) to help him because Jazmín (the female) was giving birth at home (since keeping females for those kinds of acts is illegal and they are strictly for consumption). And what left me most astonished was that Marcos, without a second thought, killed her to slaughter her, and that THE WIFE YELLED AT HIM, ASKING WHAT HE DID, THAT THAT FEMALE COULD GIVE THEM MORE KIDS... ¿¡??? "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA US EVERYONE, GÉNESIS, MY MOM, AND I". I was genuinely left speechless "The horrible thing is that throughout the book you see the protagonist thinking everything in society is awful, and the more he saw, the more he started falling into madness and the temptation to end up just like everyone else".

For such a short book, I actually found it very interesting the way you can see how consumption farms work and how the protagonist falls deeper and deeper into a bottomless pit, submerged in his own madness. 8/10
