Okay so before FriendRewind, I started out with the Spacehey website and was on there since like almost a year? This was before they implemented that invite only feature. I coded with just these videos, I would search things I wanted and rub my hands together as I copied and pasted the code. Later, I heard of FriendRewind and tried it. I did like it more and I actually began to start coding by myself after learning some code from others, inspiration and stuff. I got pretty confident so I decided, I wanted an entire website to myself. This was like 2 days ago. I got pretty bold and I did have a Neocities website beforehand but I hadn't touched it since 7 months ago because I gave up. I now understand why I did, but let's now get ahead of ourselves.
Unlike FriendRewind coding, I realized that there was basically no guardrails. Because unlike this site, it had like set layouts that you can customize. Neocities is barebones and you have to work from that. That threw me off guys, I expected it but it was brutal experimenting it firsthand. And especially since I struggle with no set rules or anything, it's just like so open-ended. (Side comment about how I struggle with OC lore, I don't have ANY lore). My peanut brain explodes whenever that happens, like with school projects. I either need a set of instructions like concise & clear or like a example. So while with that occurring, I got to learn like codes and tutorials, something about a CSS grid or flexbox to make my stinky layout.
I instead resorted to messing around with a layout generator and trying to understand what each code means what and how does it impact the site. It helped especially with customizing it for the funsies, because of my FriendRewind experience which I'm so grateful for but also not. I maybe should've started with Neocities because FriendRewind gave me some expectations that were unmet and made it a shock when I got back into neocities and started taking it very seriously. Like I have to make my own names for things, it just like it's joever. I had it so GOOD on FriendRewind profile coding, everything was like there and I could just inspect and find something I wanted to customize but guys... I have to make everything MYSELF.... I don't even know what I want, I just mess around. I do have this TINY idea, like really vague on what I want but that's like it. 3 web pages worth of ideas, I got nothing going on in my brain when trying to figure out what I want because there is infinite possibilities. I just get nervous like what if I code something then I don't end up liking it and then hours of coding is just DOWN the drain, I guess it wouldn't be as bad considering the experience gained. But for now, I just make new web pages and experiment. And I just make new ones because I worry that I might like break the page or something, it's like a throwaway page.
Anyways, I was putting off making a blog post or any public post about my experiences or something, but HTML got me so bad that I just needed somewhere to talk about this. I'm sure that there are some coding pros or also beginners like me on this site who will probably relate to this so yeah 🤑🤑 I really like FriendRewind and it's motivated me back into coding so yippee!!
Now this isn't to deter people from doing the same thing of making their own websites and stuff, there is some peak. A BIG reward, light at the end of tunnel of having this site where you can express yourself. Like my main motivator is making this like wiki type of my OCs, so motivation to conjure up some lore, and also a place where I can put my art and be mischievous. Maybe flex a bit to non-coding friends, perhaps help people who struggle with HTML and CSS because I've found that I can be really persistent especially when helping my friends in their FriendRewind profile endeavors.
I do have a knack for problem solving HTML, which is SUCH A GODSEND. Right as I'm about to give up in trying to implement some funky feature, I suddenly just have things fixed up and then it's all sunshine and rainbows. Okay I'm getting sidetracked, but neocities is certainly an experience. I wish I could like skip time and go to a point where I already got things down and just more generally knowledgeable on how the whole thing works and a peak website but unfortunately I can't, so I have to like lock in for that future. I think it'd be cool if a few months now, I'd be more seasoned then like come back to this blog post and then say how I became this like HTML god, that'd be so cool guys. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!???
Anyways that's it, that's my bite-sized yap sessions. I do have a whole series of yapping about things I like instead of just complaining about coding like this one, might make them soon. bleghhhhh.
I'm scared of Javascript(I haven't even used it yet)
