So I am a first-year student at my university, and as per policy, I have to stay in a dorm this year. No problem, I want the college experience and to not commute an hour to take an 8am class. And so the class year starts, and my roomie and I hit it off, which is a 'yayyyyy' cause ill be spending the year with her. At my dorm hall, we have these heavy ass doors that slam if you done catch them right before they make contact with the frame. And almost nobody does that, so it'll be 11pm and peoples door are slamming, and last night our neighbors SLAM their door???????
Alongside this, everyone is leavy bodywash/ hair/ underwear/ USED PADS all over the COMMUNAL bathrooms...
But anyway, whatever. As long as I get enough sleep before my morning classes I dgaf.
As a preface for what I'm about to say, I'm always on the phone with my boyfriend. Every night past about 7:30 I call my boyfriend, and we talk and have fun scrolling reels and whatever, but I am always sure to be considerate and not raise my volume, and I always wear headphones so I don't disturb anyone near me.
So imagine my surprise when not only is it a wonder to my roommate that I'm quiet, but she occasionally calls late at night too. But the difference is, she does not wear headphones, but also is talking loud as hell, with her volume up loud enough that I could join the conversation from across the room. Because of this, I stay up a little longer than usual because I don't wanna interrupt and tell her to be quiet, yk?
But last night it was pretty late and I had a 8am class so I text her night night as a polite and silly way of saying I'm going to bed. And to her discretion, she did turn down her stuff and went to sleep maybe 20 minutes after me, but in the meantime she's coughing (understandable) and sniffling loud as hell (I've wanted to yell "BLOW YOUR NOSE" so many times, and it happens in the morning too, waking me up).
Fast forward to one fucking THITRY AAAAA MMMMMM, and she is loud as hell on the phone talking to whoever the fuck saying 'I think hes the one', bla bla bla, which there is so much I can say abt that, but I dont want to put her on blast. Just know that she was too scared to ask for something that should be his responsibility as a man. (more like two responsibilities, but I digress)
I check my phone for the time and I look over the arm of my bunk bed and I call out her name," [Roomie], [ROOMIE], it is 1:30 in the morning, turn it down".
Thank god she did, but like, if ur gonna be making calls like this, especially if you're someone naturally louder and you have a roommate, please try to be considerate and maybe take the call outside, or even in the stairwell or something.
I also wanna note, yes, I need to set boundaries, no I dont feel the most comfortable doing that.
Also, she's woke me up with her tv the day prior (she has other times before, but that was so she could go to work so I dont mind). Also, she's never done this before. Like, sure, she's loud and slams the door/ plays her music out loud, but that's only ever during the day.
sighhhhh, I miss my room💔
