criminals are only criminals because the criminals that are in control on paper say so. youd also be a criminal simply for properly defending yourself. if you can't see past how stupid that is then you're not scared enough. |

It's cognitive dissonance and worse. Not only do restrictive gun laws prevent law-abiding residents from owning firearms, but true criminals—as opposed to those jailed for defending themselves (as you mentioned)—don't care about laws. Such people will obtain a gun through underground channels or theft—anti-gun legislation be damned. Criminals will always have guns, and that's something not understood by legislators.
