Im intrigued on breakfast club getting it right. i felt even to some degree it could have been my early middle school environment in some places. though the models did some changing.Β 
I often wonder what todays HONEST breakfast club would be. not dominated by a single idea, but an honest portrayal of the environment today and where idea clash between apposing "types" in todays highschool, if thats even really a thing anymore.Β 
maybe someone even younger than us, then another even younger than them might chime in here xD.Β 

I figured it must have hit some kind of lived in experience though given that movies almost religious status among some.Β 

I also wondered about what you mentioned with your friend, how what we see today is like this cartoon version of what was really only in the biggest most hip cities of the time, and if it was like when i was a real young kid,
It didnt reach the outskirts for a while, and while it was 1986 In LA, it was probably still 1978 in gary indiana. lol.Β 
From my toddler youth into young childhood, it was the early 90s.Β 
but for me, grunge was very far away.Β 
out in the boonies it was still kinda 1989 but with 1995 on the big television set.
that was probably from 1989.
And my mom was driving a 78 z28 camaro. lol
