HAI HAII!! since i'm reading this some days after you posted the blog, i hope you got your ticket!! and whoa, i really should've taken your "don't expect something simple" advice more seriously. actually, i'm still digesting this album. there's SO MUCH going on, so so so much. when i heard the intro of Blues i initially thought that it was going into a specific direction and omg, how WRONG i was for thinking i had, maybe, figured out a little of what was to happen. each song has a story and a character that is, in fact, complex. to be honest with you, i wasn't expecting them to be such douchebags BAHAHAHAHA and it's interesting because, somehow, they feel human. instead of looking at them as if they were mere parodies, i was able to feel their pain. you may find this quite weird, but many times i felt as if i was a bartender talking to a drunk-depressed guy and hearing his story. so yeah. this was an interesting journey. the way Geordie Greep sings is IMMACULATELY beautiful, expressive and REALLY interesting. he doesn't deliver simple melodies [just as you said! if i remember correctly ofc tehehe], but actually gives a soul to each person. oh, and not to mention how well arranged the album is, and how much he seems to love Samba, Bossa Nova and, if i'm correct, got inspired by the album Saudades, by Naná. Not to mention the Salsa, Mambo, and my God, even Afro-Cuban Jazz! really, what a journey! what a nice recommendation!~ this was just my first listen [not exactly because, at the time i'm finishing this reply, i've listened to specific songs wayy more than that LOL] and some research i did about some of the arrangements, but it feels like i'm always missing something xD xD. like, EACH LISTEN HAS MORE THINGS. anyways, nice blog as always twin!!! hope you can bless us with your taste once more~~ |

from Music is also my life! I love new wave, post punk, and also a lot of unknown (outside of Japan) Japanese groups from the 70s and 80s. I will check this guy out! So glad to see that he is coming to your area! Grab those tickets. I managed to see some of my favorite artists that came to my area and it will always be such a cool life experience! hope you can grab those tickets! Thank you! It’s always great to meet someone else who feels that music is such an important part of life. Your taste sounds really interesting. I love discovering those lesser-known Japanese bands from the 70s and 80s. There are so many incredible artists from that era that never got the international attention they deserved. I hope you enjoy checking out Geordie Greep! His music is definitely unique, he has this amazing mix of jazz, rock, prog, and a bit of that chaotic energy that makes every song feel unpredictable. I’m really hoping I can get those tickets! I agree with you completely, seeing a favorite artist live is one of those experiences that stays with you forever. There’s something special about being in the same room, hearing the songs you love, and sharing that moment with other fans.

HAII TWIN!! First of all, YES!! I managed to get a ticket!! I'm genuinely so excited, I still can't believe he's actually coming here.
And I'm so happy u gave The New Sound a chance!! Your description of feeling like a bartender listening to a drunk, depressed guy is honestly one of the best ways I've seen someone describe the album. That's exactly what I love about Geordie's writing. His characters are so exaggerated on the surface, but underneath all that arrogance and absurdity there's something deeply human about them.
I also had the exact same experience on my first listen. Every time I thought I knew where a song was going... it completely changed direction. The arrangements are just insane. There are so many little details that it's impossible to catch everything in one listen, and I think that's why I keep coming back to it. It never feels "finished."
And yes!! You can definitely hear all those Latin influences throughout the album. It's one of the things that makes it feel so unique. Geordie somehow manages to mix all these styles together wthout it ever feeling forced, which is honestly really impressive.
I'm really curious to see how your opinion changes after a few more listens because I genuinely think it's one of those albums that just keeps growing. I know it did for me.
