That scene genuinely made my stomach twist when I saw it. Because what...? She's lying in that bed, begging to be put out of her misery, begging to be let free from the nightmare that is her life now, yet the only thing Bear could think about was "why does she not love me?" 

It just hammers home that selfishness is a core trait of his. That despite being scared of her, he still can't let go of this delusion that maybe one day she'll love him back the way he always fantasized she would. It's just sickening and horrifying to watch as he takes advantage of her repeatedly even when he knows its wrong. His greed and gluttony is an endless pit that he continues to shovel his delusional hopes into with no sign of being satisfied. 

Not being able to control her is his own personal nightmare. He doesn't love her, he's never loved her. Loving her would mean letting her go, watching his dreams of making her his lover slip from his fingers, and not getting his way is somehow worse than the situation he's made for himself. He only wanted a fantasy. One where he has a life outside of her, but where her whole world is him and him only. Where he can do no wrong and be coddled and doted on infinitely. 

But suddenly it isn't okay when it backfires on him. When she tapes the door shut and prevents him from hanging out with his friends, when she's possessive to an aggressive degree, crying and screaming for him to only see her. For him, his whole world to revolve around her and her alone is seen as an abusive situation that he doesn't want to be in, a scary trap that, while the bait in the center looks highly appealing, isn't worth the chance of injury. Yet Bear still sticks his foot into it willingly, lets it clamp down into his flesh then blames the bait for his foolish actions. 

And his selfishness extends even after his death. Where he leaves her with the aftermath of his choices. There she sits, free from the wishes powers, but still trapped by Bear. Still trapped in his clutches, surrounded by the bodies of people she once cared about and with unimaginable mental scars from the whole situation. He left her with a life she can't continue to live after what he did. Her life is effectively over, because who would believe a girl covered in blood that some stupid scam called a One Wish Willow controlled her and made her do it? 

I always wondered why he didn't shoot her first before trying to shoot himself, but that's just another instance of his selfishness. He only thought of himself right 'til the end. He only gave himself a way out and left her to suffer.
