I really agree with this. I think we've become so used to seeing the internet as something permanent that we forget how fragile it actually is. Entire websites disappear, servers shut down, accounts get deleted, and suddenly years of memories are just... gone. I also think it's sad how often we delete things because we think they're "cringe" or embarrassing. Looking back at old posts or photos can be uncomfortable, but they're also little pieces of who we were at that moment. Even if we've changed, they still tell part of our story. I've started appreciating the idea of treating the internet like a personal archive rather than just a place to post for likes. You never know what will become meaningful years from now. A random photo, a blog post, or even a silly comment can end up being something you treasure<33 |

This happened to my childhood kids website, kinda like facebook for kids, my whole childhood.. gone, out of nowhere It makes me mad, if the owner of the website would inform that he is going to delete the website, I would go there and make sure to archive it... welp, it didnt happen. I understand it was dying kids website that was actually DEAD dead, but my whole childhood happened on that site.. all the dramas we had, all the roleplays, chats... I managed to get some of my old posts from the website BEFORE it was deleted but its not enough, makes me so mad like seriously... :((( I even still talk to my online best friend I met on the website! 12 years of friendship! he sadly doesnt have much saved either. reading abt things like this always make me feel sick, knowing that so many people had built something so personal to them and meant so much to them just being wiped with no warning, i can kinda relate bc a game that ive been playing since 2016 just shut down on june 1st and atleast they gave me time to archive, but when things shut down and wipe everything the people have made (geocities) it always makes me feel so sick knowing a piece of internet history is gone not just for me but for the person it matters most to. by XxB3ASTEDK1TTYxX; ; Report |
your so right i love this comment so much i had to pin it, i really like your point abt treating the internet as a personal archive, bc i feel like so many people just think theres so many archivers out there, and there is, but what if they dont archive your profile or your photos or they dont know abt a small website that only you and a small group of people know, small things like these are why you should archive just to archive,
and omg yes i tried to find a comment i posted on a tiktok video a few years ago and i could find the comment nor the video it was like trying to hunt down a ghost, if i were to screenshot it i wouldve had it just fine.
but this comment was really amazing thank you for taking the time to write it X3!!!!!
