As someone who consumes a good amount of romance/erotic media (games and books) the amount of times rape/sexual assault was randomly included just for the heck of it (has no contribution to the story-line and is obviously written/drawn/animated/voiced in a fetishized way) is concerning. What's upsetting is the authors AND the viewers undermine how sick rape/SA is, and ignore/glamorize it cause it's genuinely everywhere. The number idiots who promote it as "Dark Romance." is seriously baffling. Keep in mind, most of these are marketed towards teenagers. I mostly stir away from anything "Dark" now, cause I'm just gonna assume it's slop and protect my psyche.

And no, I'm not talking about actual representation of rape/SA, I'm talking about the obviously fetishized ones (saying this before someone beats me to it)

i totally agree with you. ive seen multiple videos on social media saying things like "cnc is vanilla" or just people romanticising/downplaying abusive behaviors. i believe that some people might take posts like that as an invitation to act out on their weird fantasies because they have normalized their disgusting behavior for themselves.
