Hi. This is a hard thing to discuss since I don't have your sisters perspective, but I'll just share my thoughts. I was a really angsty kid too when I was 14 due to my environment, and I relate (sadly) to the comments she makes, I do regret them now, I see how religion can be someone's salvation, and true faith is a beautiful thing if it isn't harming other people. According to the story, I do think her friend might be an influence since they're indulging in each other, but that's to say if she doesn't have problems outside of home (school, online, ect.) I can't speak about the her eating disorder since I haven't experienced it and dived in the topic, but has her psychiatrist diagnosed her specific ED type? (like binging) that would explain her trips to the kitchen in my opinion. Now, for your question "Would it be okay if I told her that, for my own mental health, I don't want to discuss her mental health problems with her anymore? Whenever she starts talking about them, I end up feeling emotionally drained, exhausted, and in a bad mood." I checked your profile, and it turns out you are only a few years older than her, so it would be good to protect your own mental health. If you are getting affected, I think you should talk to her calmly, and try to make sure you aren't wording it like she's burdening you, maybe say something along the lines of "I'm sorry, I really don't know what to say to that. I think it would be better to discuss these things with your therapist, I'm sure they'll be a far better help. If there's something you need, just tell me or (guardian)" Since she has a therapist, I'd say it's okay for you to be a little bit selfish, but if you sense something is wrong, definitely step up. I hope my thoughts helped, even a little bit. Make sure to take care of yourself! |
the only problem for school i can think of is her bad grades in like 3 subjects and on tik tok her whole fyp is something about depresssion strugles etc and they arent even tok toks trying to help they kinda feed into it yk other than that she doesnt have problems and her ed isnt fully diagnosed yet but like 80% of it is

Consuming negative content is definitely adding to it... even sad music can be a factor! I hope she'll get into a better headspace and that her therapy will go well. It'll be good for her and you.
Good luck with your talk with her! Your mental health is just as important. Hope the best for the both of you.
