She used to be heavily dependant on drugs in the 70s, around the time her voice started to sound like.. well.. that, so thats one factor. I love Martha Reeves with a passion, trust me, and I also don't like when people say "shes been sounding like that" because thats just simply not true, but thats without saying she should've just sat this one out. She sounded a hot mess on that field.
