I think the confusion is just because of how non-genuine the culture around us is. Like nice vs kind. Like, I was raised around a lot of very nice but superficial people, so that mindset was very normalized. My family is super genuine tho, so we always gave out very genuine or specific compliments. Now, if I'm talking to a classmate and I compliment them, they mistake it for flirting because I try to be specific and enthusiastic. Your only crime here may be that you're too kind, lol |

if you want to seem less like youre flirting be more chill i guess? like just 'dudee your hair is really cool i like it a lot' or whatever i mean some people take anything as flirting even when it isnt so you cant really fix it. i think the way you compliment people is fine and obviously not flirting but some people just cant tell and as for the future love of your life i sure hope they'd be clear with you about that kind of thing |
