is it wrong? no. is it unwise? yes. even just being engaged will have you making decisions based on the idea of a future with your partner. sometimes those decisions aren’t in good taste or don’t consider personal needs or goals. that’s only amplified by being so young. we all think we’re mature enough at 18 to make big decisions, but as someone who uprooted themself entirely at 18, i wouldn’t recommend it. it’s only a year later and i’m facing real dilemmas due to my desire to be “an adult” regardless of if i feel better about where i am. as far as relationships go, so quickly do promises get broken or “shared” desires change. if you love this person, and they love you, saying you’re wanting and willing to wait for such a big step won’t ruin what you think you have. if they are completely upset and their attitude towards you changes after saying something less harsh than a “NO” and explaining why, then i think it’s indicative of this person’s lack of maturity and you’d dodge a bullet by dipping. of course being disappointed after a failed proposal is normal, but if they can’t realize why you’d be hesitant at that age, then it’s no good. of course, if you really insist on it, i don’t think it’s the worst thing to get engaged and wait a good while before marriage. at least if things don’t work out there won’t be legal things to deal with. my opinion is also that if you have to ask these things, i think you know what the best choice is. it’s okay to take things slow, or, be ahead of everyone else, but we should all also enjoy our youth and only put ourselves into situations we are completely ready to handle. for most people, marriage and even engagement is not a great choice to make at 18. the idea of living with someone else, supporting yourselves, both having solidified opinions on things like children, and being against infidelity, is often very different from reality -especially at 18 & under. i think you should do things that make you happy, but also remind yourself of potential consequences of jumping too fast. no one wants to waste their “years of freedom and youth” being invested in something that isn’t what they expected it to be. |

18 is the legal age of consent in a great majority of countries, so I guess it ain't wrong it's a bit off imo because by 18 you would just start being an adult and think about your future (kinda ironic coming from me, who idfk what to do with it and I turn 20 soon), such as your job, what university to attend, then plan your marriage and get engaged when you're somewhat ok in your life but I don't think it can affect your future and be a happy event but no, it ain't gonna be bad, but ur future husband finna get accepted to you going to university (if you plan to) Happy Wedding! (in case you finna do it!) |
