to answer your question about cd players, i need to know if either of the players are new or vintage, perhaps the boombox one is a muse's ghetto blaster? cuz vintage portable cd players are way different from how a modern one behaves, specifically 2000's player's anti-skip is way more complex than just adding buffer between the laser and dac, it also changes how the laser behaves making it weak in one place but also making it strong in other(e.g. putting it in a bag or running with it in hands), also, a lot of modern players (especially the bigger ones) are using pc-drives which will have a buffer no matter what... they also behave way differently from vintage cd's players cuz in a vintage piece if there's an error, it'll either completely fix it due to how cd's are encoded or make it so that you wouldn't notice in case the cd is too scratched, unlike a pc-drive that'll try to re-read until it gets it right, it'll pass misreads which will result in distorted sound(sort of popping and cracks) that is the case if the portable one is vintage and the boombox is modern you could try tampering with portable one's anti-skip modes to see how it behaves |
