The words we use and the associations those words have influences our perceptions and behaviors; so they have a valid point. If you study linguistics and psychology it turns out it is in fact that deep.

The word you are looking for is fiance. That is a boyfriend you intend to marry. 



I feel like this falls short of the point. that much is obvious, yet there is still much to be desired within the confines of modern dating/courtship. the gap of implied "seriousness" between the terms boyfriend/girlfriend & fiancé/fiancée is massive
