I feel out of place on this site. I know that's one hell of a way to start a blog post but let me explain. I tend to lean more conservative on issues, but I'm not intolerant of others. You're free to live your life however you see fit, and I won't stop you, even if i don't agree with it. I feel like we'd be able to find common ground in other areas. It's just that I feel like I'm walking on eggshells every time I make a post. I had one girl unfriend me because i wasn't "woke enough" for her. I don't feel like politics belong in polite conversation because it can ruin good things very fast. It's happened to me before, and I don't want it to happen again.

i learned it's best to not talk about politics unless if the conversation is specifically about something political. but, it's your account, your opinions, your values, and you can say whatever you'd like. doesn't matter if you're left wing or right wing. and if this girl doesn't approve over something as petty as not having an opinion on maga, that's on her, not you.
my first account on spacehey was banned because i often shared my political views, and i guess someone got upset at me because of it. i really want to be apolitical here, but that's just me. if you're okay with people getting upset with you, speak your mind freely.

I get that. I seem to be center right and it seems most sites in general lean left so I feel out of place. I feel like it's just a shift in society, in the 2000s and kinda in the early 2010s it was normal for people online to have libertarian values which is why the internet was know to be edgy and like the wild west. Other factors as well but I'll just focus on politics. But now that the internet has been cleaned up and uniform it's more appealing to people who believe they are right and everyone else is wrong and society has shifted from libertarian to being left, center left I suppose.
So the people who would be out of place online during a time like 2005 are now the people who make up most online communities, and people from back then are out of place today. Best you can do is be yourself, make it known where you stand on certain topics if you want, and while people will block you for it, others will reach out and be happy to see someone else similar to them.

Why do you feel out of place? You're correct that politics shouldn't dictate friendships, but at the end of the day, nobody wants to be friends with someone who disagrees with them on fundamental values and morals. And yes, the world has gone crazy, nobody even knows what political side they are on, and they only focus on "hot button" issues and have no opinions of their own. And so many people don't care about, or know what is actually going on in their country.

Well, super conservatism has been bleeding into every government/social circles since the maga movement in america gained traction. So I do understand people asking questions like that. There are horrible things going on in america, and it's getting worse every day, so we can understand people asking you those kinds of questions.
Unfortunately, politics have become the new hot topic to talk about, because it is affecting everyone. And that is a GOOD thing, it's been far too long of people holding wishy-washy moral and political views.
And to not have an opinion on it does make it seem like you would side with the extreme right wing.
Nobody seems to know their own laws and things going on. This unnamed woman and you have probably just watched youtube shorts an have formed your political opinions from them. It's sad, but true.
We are what the american populous calls "centrist", but then the moment you speak to another so called centrist, they turn out to be a racist piece of shit. Politics suck.
What are your beliefs that are "more conservative"? Did you from them organically? Or did they only form from videos/news you have consumed?

I think the algorithm driven platforms allow people to live inside echo chambers, and this ends up bleeding into neutral sites, where people feel the need to avoid everyone they disagree with like it's some kind of sin. I've just learned to read the room before I speak and don't get overly attached to anyone who doesn't know my politics, because I've lost so many people I thought were my friends over the stupidest political or religious disagreements.

It's not even worth the effort trying to appease those people. Honestly, every single week it's a new hot button issue you have to fully endorse ASAP or you're literally Hitler. Remember when it was BLM, then bodycam footage destroyed that movement. Then it was Ukraine, which barely makes headlines anymore in the wake of whatever is happening in the middle east this week. Then it was trans issues in sports. You'll drive yourself insane trying to keep up.
It's your life and YOU ALONE get to decide what is important enough for you to care about. Don't let any random bleeding heart jackass online try to tell you how to dedicate your time and energy.

The argument, or the point if you like, was that it's exhausting trying to keep up with all the woke nonsense and that it's more beneficial to his own mental health for him to decide for himself what matters in his own life rather than the woke mind virus / formerly twitter outrage mob. Socio-political issues are not "mind viruses". Don't get me wrong, there are a million things wrong with every movement that has gained traction, but the sentiment behind them was not a mind virus, nor is it "woke". It's definitely been a shit show, but you need to look behind the curtain. Just because some movements have been manufactured, doesn't mean the base problem isn't real.
Maybe only the Ukraine issues were problematic, but nobody talks about Ukraine being an epicenter of alt-right violence and Russia finally put their foot down. But I will not talk on that topic because I am American, and was not there. Would love to know the actual events that went down.
I know white people changed the meaning of woke, like they always change everything. but god damn, hate people using it like the way you're using it. It's supposed to be about knowing how the government uses systematic racism to control black/brown people. And funnily enough, it's starting to work on white people too.
"Woke" is just a word for a movie like "They Live" They tell you to consume, breed, buy. That's all "woke" means.
It's kind of funny when whites use the word woke as an insult, because they don't know what it means. And it's kind of working on them. Just segregating everyone more, it's sad to be honest.
Just the fact the people use "woke" as an insult for liberals is hilarious, liberals literally want government healthcare. REAL woke people don't want the government to interfere with their life at all. They want non profit healthcare. You've misunderstood me, and again, I blame myself for my lack of clarity. I don't deny that the problems aren't real. That real people experience horrible things.
The "woke" bs I am describing is how this woman treated the gentleman in his original post. He wasn't woke enough for her so her response is to abandon him? Good riddance, I say, because it isn't her place to dictate what he gets to believe is important in his own life.
For my own part, do I support gay marriage for example. The answer is no, but more to the point, the answer is I don't care what two consenting adults do. I am struggling to live my own life and maintain my own quality of life. I don't have time to dedicate to this. Same with Ukraine. I'm not disagreeing that war is horrifying. I'm disagreeing on the premise that I have to care what's happening half a world away, otherwise I'm a Nazi bigoted fascist. I have to support men in women's locker rooms or I'm a Nazi bigoted fascist. I have to donate money to BLM so they can burn down half the country because a black guy ODed on fentanyl or, you guessed it, I'm a Nazi bigoted fascist.
I'm not describing the worst of the worst, either. This is not a strawman. I've seen it firsthand. Granted your experience may be different than mine, but I wasn't replying to your experience. I was replying to OP's experience, and he isn't alone in that regard.

Either way, women should run for the hills when they hear that word.
Cool, so to break it down:
you don't believe in equal marital rights. If you believe that two consenting adults can do what they want, why don't you believe in them having marital, legal, and hospital rights?
The only BLM case you will talk about it George Floyd, that happened in 2020, though there are hundreds and hundreds of police brutality cases, but that's the only one YOU paid attention to, because that's the only one that was publicized. There have been so many before and after, but the only thing people against BLM focus on is his case. Yeah, don't get me wrong, BLM has it's problems, but don't act like systematic racism doesn't exist just because you don't believe their movement.
